“I promise that I will pray for you!” or “I will keep you in my prayers always!”... the promises that Catholics often use when talking to those they meet. However, how do we think about those promises? Someone is unhesitant to show their opinions that: “Tell a lie!” or “I never believe in their promises for praying!”
However, I have been reminded of the obligation of Christians to pray for others, as it is very important. Sometimes I have to be honest with myself about how I can keep everyone in my prayers, and I understand the value of those prayers lies in the depth of their relationship to God’s Will. Therefore, if I only keep my prayers in my mind, I cannot remember all the people I promised to pray for.
Furthermore, I keep the consciousness of the teaching of Jesus: “when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” (Mt 6:6) And the reminding of Jesus about the attitude of pray: “when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” (Mt 6:7-8)
Thus, my personal obligation is to maintain my prayer’s intention for others in simple manners. God understands each situation of each one, and He will give graces according to His boundless love.
